Softball: DU opens conference play with sweep of Wittenberg

Denison kicked off North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of Wittenberg University from Springfield. DU edged the Tigers 4-3 in game one and returned in the second game for a 6-2 victory.
Denison's Leslie Brenner (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) fired a complete game in the opener. She allowed seven hits, two earned runs and struck out three to earn her fourth win of the season. Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name) had a two-run triple in the third to give DU a 2-0 lead.
In the nightcap Krolikowski came back with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate. She upped her season batting average to .411 by driving in three runs and scoring two. Erica Evans (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and one run scored to round out the hitting stars for the Big Red.
Sam Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) picked up her fifth win of the season by allowing just two runs off six hits while striking out four.
DU improves to 10-9 with the win and will host The College of Wooster on Saturday at 1 p.m.
