Softball: Big Red completes sweep of Case Western

Behind an outstanding pitching performance by Bri Scrofano (Longs, S.C./McDowell) in game one and an stellar day at the plate by freshman first baseman Erica Evans (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Denison completed a doubleheader sweep of visiting Case Western Reserve on Tuesday in Granville.
Scrofano pitched five innings of perfect softball until Beth Andrasik led off the sixth inning with a base hit to short left center, ending her no-hit bid. She would close out the sixth, allowing two runs and three hits. She struck out eight Spartans on the day and improved her record to 7-2. Leslie Brenner (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) pitched the seventh inning for Denison.
Evans went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored in the opener. Alex Murray (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/NDCL) and Ali Silver (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) also had two hits apiece leading DU to the 7-2 victory.
In the second game Denison scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to complete a come from behind 8-6 win. Sam Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) went the distance, allowing just two earned runs off eight hits. She struck out seven and improved her record to 4-3 on the year.
Evans added two more hits in four at-bat's while driving in a run and scoring a run. Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Denison will jump back into North Coast Athletic Conference play on Thursday (April 10) when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University.
