Date: March 20, 2008
Location: MARIETTA, Ohio

Denison defeated Marietta College 5-3 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader but suffered their first loss of the season in the night-cap, falling 7-5 to the Pioneers.

In the opener Denison got a strong pitching performance from senior Bri Scrofano and some help from a four-run second inning that would set up the two-run victory.

After a Brie Berkopek RBI double put DU on top 1-0 after the top of the first inning, Marietta would match the run in the bottom of the first.  In the second Alex Murray led off the inning with a single, Claire Kopko walked and Mary Beth Krolikowski stroked a two-run double.  After advancing to third on the throw, and Ali Silver ground out would plate Krolikowski with the fourth run of the game.  After a single in the first inning, senior Ali Teopas would put an exclamation point on the inning with her second home run of the season.

Scrofano would hold off Marietta the rest of the way.  She went the distance, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out one.  Her record improved to 4-0 with the win while Marietta's Erin Faulkner dropped to 4-2.

In game two Denison totaled 11 hits but left 12 runners on base to suffer their first loss of the young season.  Sam Rumschlag got the start and allowed 11 hits in six innings of work.  She was 2-for-4 at the plate.  Faulkner earned the victory in 3.2 innings of relief.  Emily McComb was 4-for-4 to lead Marietta.

DU will host Heidelberg College on Tuesday (March 25) at 3:30 p.m.
