Softball: Big Red downs OWU in first day of NCAC Tournament

Bri Scrofano fired a complete game, four hit shutout and Alex Murray blasted her seventh home run of the season as the Big Red defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 5-0 on Friday in Meadville, Pa.
Denison, who entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, scored their first run in the second inning off Murray's solo shot to left-center field. OWU would counter with two hits in the bottom of the inning only to have Scrofano strand them both. The Bishops would scrape together just two more hits the rest of the way.
Leading 2-0, DU scored three runs in the sixth inning when Ali Teopas scored off a wild pitch following her lead off single. Brie Berkopec's double to right field would plate Ali Silver and Mary Beth Krolikowski with the insurance runs.
Denison will face Hiram College in the semifinals of the tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. A win would put Denison in the championship game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
No. 4 Hiram advanced to the semifinals by defeating No. 1 seed, Allegheny, 8-6.
