Date: April 19, 2008
Location: MEADVILLE, Pa.
Allegheny College scored five run in the fourth inning of game one to take the opener 5-3 but the Big Red battled back in the nightcap with a 10-1, five-inning victory.
The first game saw DU get on the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI double by Ali Silver (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood). Denison would score two more in the fourth inning after an Alex Murray (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/NDCL) solo home run to lead off the inning.
The Gators would strike back in the bottom half of the fourth after Rachel Ryan reached on an error to start the inning. The error would open the floodgates for four Gator hits and all five runs. Abby Bodenlos delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run homer to left field with two outs.
The Big Red would try and mount a comeback in the fifth after Brie Berkopec (Mars, Pa./Mars) led off the inning with her third home run of the season. After that Allegheny starter Amanda Downey would keep the Big Red bats at-bay.
Denison starter Bri Scrofano (Longs, S.C./McDowell) was charged with the loss. She allowed seven hits in six innings but all five Gator runs were unearned. She also struck out three.
Game two would be a much different story as the Big Red put together a seven-run third inning to run away with the nine-run victory. In the first inning, Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name) hit her first home run of the year and Claire Kopko (Washington, Pa./Trinity) would tack on a three-run shot in the third inning to highlight Denison's offensive heroes.
Kopko was 3-for-4 in game two with a double a home run and four RBIs. She is just three hits away from becoming Denison's all-time leader. Krolikowski was also 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Of Denison's 12 hits in game two, eight went for extra-bases.
Sam Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) earned the win after allowing eight hits over five innings pitched. Allison Korotkin was charged with the loss after pitching 2.1 innings and allowing six runs off seven hits.
Denison is 18-10 overall and 6-6 in conference play. They have two NCAC games remaining on their schedule, a April 26th doubleheader with Oberlin.
