Denison blanked Kenyon 10-0 in game one but suffered a 9-0 setback in game two on Wednesday, falling to 5-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Denison was led by senior ace Bri Scrofano (Longs, S.C./McDowell) who picked up her 10th win of the season. She pitched the first six innings and allowed only five hits while striking out four.
Scrofano got plenty of help from her offense as DU pounded out 13 hits highlighted by five multi-hit performances by Ali Teopas (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview), Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name), Brie Berkopec (Mars, Pa./Mars), Claire Kopko (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Erica Evans (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington). Koko had a two-run triple in the seventh and Krolikowski added an RBI single in the third and a two-run single in the fourth.
In the night cap the script was flipped as Kenyon held Denison to just three hits and pulled off the 9-0 win in five innings. Kenyon's Stephanie Hemmingson allowed only three singles and did not walk a batter. She improved to 7-5 wit the win. The loss was charged to Mandy Krutzler (Geneva, Ill./Hudson) who fell to 3-2 on the year.
Denison (17-9, 5-5 NCAC) will travel to Allegheny on Saturday for a critical NCAC doubleheader with the Gators beginning at 1 p.m.
