Thomas Named NCAC Pitcher of the Year, Six Named to All-NCAC Softball Squads; Two Earn All-Region Accolades

Denison University senior Rachel Thomas (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year headlining a list of six All-NCAC selections for the Big Red softball team.

Thomas ended the season with a 13-3 record and a 1.07 ERA in 14 starts. She struck out a team-high 99 batters and held the opposition to a .188 batting average. In conference play she posted a 6-1 record and a 1.00 earned run average. In addition to her Pitcher of the Year and first-team all-conference award, she was also named to the All-Central Region, second-team.

Joining Thomas on the first-team in the NCAC was juniors Erin Porter (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal), Rachel Cotterman (New Lexington, Ohio/Fisher Catholic) and Bri Scrofano (Erie, Pa./McDowell). Porter, also a second-team all-region choice, hit .395 with 13 doubles, two triples and four home runs while driving in a team-best 30 runs.

Cotterman hit .412 in NCAC play while driving in eight runs. For the season she posted a .325 batting average and tied for the team lead among outfielders with four defensive assists. Scrofano is making her first appearance on the first-team after two consecutive second-team honors. She was unbeaten in league play and posted a miniscule 0.41 ERA. On the year she fanned 63 batters and went 7-7 with a 1.90 ERA.

Representing Denison on the second team was junior shortstop Ali Silver (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) who led the team in hitting with a .403 average. She tied for the team lead with 13 doubles and hit .500 in conference play. She also led Denison with 12 stolen bases.

Rounding out the honorees for Denison was senior Emily Sack (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) who is making her fourth consecutive appearance on the All-NCAC team. She earned an honorable mention in 2007 after batting .318 with 10 doubles, three triples and 18 RBI.
