Date: August 09, 2007
Location: Granville

Tiffany Ozbun, assistant softball coach at Manchester College (Ind.), has been named head softball coach at Denison University, as announced by Denison Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation Larry Scheiderer.

Ozbun, a 2001 Manchester College graduate, replaces Holly Bruder, who recently accepted the head softball coaching position at Division I Morehead State (Ky.) after guiding the Big Red to 145 victories and four North Coast Athletic Conference championships in six seasons.

Ozbun has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Manchester and spent three years as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville where she earned a master of science in sport administration. While at Louisville, Ozbun worked primarily with catchers and defense while also serving as director of the Cardinal summer softball camp.

"I could not have asked for a better situation to begin my career as a head coach," Ozbun said. "Denison's reputation as a prestigious academic institution combined with their extremely successful athletic programs is something that I am proud to be a part of. I am excited to join such a talented group of administrators, coaches and staff and I am looking forward to meeting and working with our players in the fall. We will work had to carry on the winning tradition that is associated with the Denison softball program."

"Tiffany's coaching experience and her administrative abilities, combined with her tremendous enthusiasm allowed her to rise to the top of a very strong group of candidates," Scheiderer said. "The committee felt that the timing was right for Tiffany to move into a head coaching position and all involved were in agreement that she would be a great fit for Denison University and the Denison softball program."

As a player, Ozbun was a four-year letter winner and three-year co-captain for the Spartans. She led Manchester to the 2001 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and was named the team's most valuable player. She was the recipient of Manchester's Betty Clark Memorial award for her outstanding scholarship, athletic achievement, leadership and service and was a member of the Manchester Directors Council and the Manchester Faculty Athletic Committee.

Ozbun inherits a veteran team made up of eight seniors, two juniors and five sophomores. Denison is coming off their second consecutive 30-win season and their second straight North Coast Athletic Conference championship. Since softball was added as a varsity sport in 1997 the program has won 232 games and has posted a .556 winning percentage while advancing to three NCAA Division III Tournaments.
