Women's Swimming & Diving: Big Red too much for Carnegie Mellon

Jenny Cunningham won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:57.26 helping DU to a 183-105 win over CMU.

The Denison women's swimming and diving squad scored a 183-105 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Senior Day from Gregory Pool in Granville.  It was the final dual meet tune-up before the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship which will take place on Feb. 12-14 in Canton, Ohio.

The Big Red's 400 free relay team of Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area), Hilary Callen (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South) and Kristen Hohl (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) won the event with a time of 3:31.32.  All four members of that relay squad would take first in individual events as well.  Callen took first in the 200 free in 1:54.79 and Zaleski won the 50 free in 23.94 seconds.  The 100 free would be controlled by Hohl who touched in 52.69 seconds.  Golovkina was the winner in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.04.

In the 1000 freestyle Jenny Cunningham (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) held off Laura Menard (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak) for the win.  She covered the distance event in 10:57.26.  Sophomore diver Samantha Salas won the one-meter with a score of 210.90 and Bethany Sabourin (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens) captured a victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.44.

Denison's final two winners were Laurel Brabson (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) in the 200 butterfly and Emily Schroeder (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) in the 200 backstroke.  Denison's dual meet schedule comes to a close with a record of 5-2.
