After three days of competition at the 2008 Miami University Invitational the Big Red closed out Saturday's final eight events in sixth place with 771.5 points. The victory went to host, Miami, with 2,440.5 points.
Denison's night got going with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area), Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./South), Laurel Brabson (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) and Kristen Hohl (Winfiield, Ill./Wheaton North) touched in 1:45.68. They finished behind only Miami University who's relay team broke the Nixon Aquatic Center record that was previously set by Denison University at last year's 2008 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship.
Later in the evening a pair of automatic qualifying times would be recorded by both Hohl and Zaleski in the 100 Fly and 100 free, respectively. Zaleski placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.55, punching her ticket to Minneapolis. Brabson would finish 16th in the event in 58.12.
In the 100 freestyle Hohl took third place with a time of 51.37 to record her "A" cut. Zaleski followed in fourth place in 51.61, missing her automatic cut time by just two one-hundreths of a second.
In the 500 freestyle, Hilary Callen (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) placed 14th with a time of 5:04.85 which is an NCAA provisional qualifing time and Rochelle Akradi took 15th in the 200 breaststroke.
The one-meter dive saw Brett Balling (Troy, Mich./Troy) and Lizzy Litwak (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) place 13th and 14th, respectively. Balling totaled 180.65 points while Litwak scored 155.20.
Hohl, Annamarie Novinger (Longmont, Colo./Niwot), Breanna Gordon (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) and Zaleski closed out the Invitational with a sixth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:29.15.
Denison's next scheduled competition will be a dual meet with Ohio University on Jan. 9 in Athens, Ohio.
