Denison University junior Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) was named the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for Division III after her outstanding performance at last week's Miami University Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
Zaleski logged three NCAA automatic qualifying times at the three-day event and set a new school record in the 100 backstroke while leading off the Big Red's 400 medley relay team. Her split of 55.71 in the relay was not only the fastest in Denison history, it was the third fastest time in the event in small college history.
Aside from her standout performance in the relay, Zaleski recorded "A" cut times in the 100 butterfly (55.55), the 100 backstroke (57.15) and the 50 freestyle (23.63). In addition to her 400 medley relay duties, Zaleski also swam on the second-place 200 medley relay team and the third place 200 free relay.
Zaleski is a 14-time All-American and a five-time North Coast Athletic Conference champion. At the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship Zaleski captured her first national championship as a member of the Denison 200 medley relay team.
The Big Red will return to the pool on January 9, 2009 in a dual meet with Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
