Women's Swimming & Diving: Big Red picks up dual victories

The Denison women's swimming & diving team picked up dual wins over Oberlin College and at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference action.  DU defeated Oberlin 136-87 and OWU 158-58.

Against Oberlin, senior Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) paced DU with a pair of individual victories.  Zaleski touched in at 24.47 to win the 50 freestyle and followed that up with a victory in the 100 butterfly, recording a time of 58.12.  Sophomore Hilary Callen (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.26 and was also finished first in the 500 free posting a time of 5:06.91.  Rounding out the multiple event winners was rookie Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) who won the 100 back with a time of 1:00.63 and was a member of the 400 medley relay team.

At Ohio Wesleyan, the Big Red saw five swimmer capture first in three events.  Sophomores Laurel Brabson (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) and Emily Schroeder (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) were both part of the 400 medley and free relay teams that took home first-place honors.  Brabson also won the 200 fly in a time of 2:09.67, while Schroeder captured the 200 backstroke title touching in at 2:10.45.  Joining Brabson and Schroeder on the 400 free relay squad were first-years Becky Ramsey (Evanston, Ill/Evanston Township) and Alyssa Swanson (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit).  Swanson also won the 200 and 500 free in times of 1:54.61 and 5:05.16, respectively, while Ramsey touched in at 11:12.78 to wn the 1,000 free crown.  In addition to being one-fourth of the 400 medley relay team, sophomore Marit Wangstad (Wayzata, Minn./The Blake School) also took first in the 50 (25.72) and 100 free (55.76) races.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 7) when they travel to Kenyon College for a classic North Coast Athletic Conference clash.  First event is schedule to begin at 10 a.m.
