Women's Swimming & Diving: Denison Downs Wittenberg

Kacey Centrella helped Denison to a 133-83 win over Wittenberg on Saturday.

The Denison women rebounded from a Friday night loss to Ohio University with a 133-83 victory over Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Ohio.

The 200 medley relay team of Anna Comella (Dover, Ohio/Dover), Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South), Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) and Bethany Sabourin (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens) set the tone in the first event of the day with a winning time of 1:35.77.

Sabourin would return later with a victory in the 200 backstroke as she outdistanced teammates Savannah Mortensen (Albuquerque, N.M/Albuquerque) and Ginny Walsh (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews) with a time of 2:12.18.

The victory in the 100 freestyle went to junior Kristen Hohl (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) and her time of 46.76 seconds.  Annamarie Novinger (Longmont, Colo./Niwot) was second and sophomore Kate Rich (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township).

Freshman Samantha Salas (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) won the one meter dive with a score of 206.90.  Sophomore Jenny Cunningham (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) took the mile, touching in 18:20.48.

Brittany Oxley (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) edged Lisa Fry (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) in the 50 free with a winning time of 25.81 seconds and sophomore Kathy Faingold (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) took the 200 IM in 2:12.89.

Senior Kacey Centrella (Douglassville, Pa./Boyertown) rounded out the victories for Denison with a win in the 200 fly in 2:14.83.

Denison's next dual meet will be Saturday (Jan. 26) when they host Grove City College at 1 p.m.
