Women's Swimming & Diving: Pool Records Fall in Win Over Grove City

Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South) set a new pool record in the 100 breastroke and rookie Samantha Salas (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) set a new mark in the women's three-meter dive as the Big Red steamrolled Grove City College, 169-110 on Saturday at Gregory Pool in Granville.
Golovkina reached her NCAA provisional qualifying time while setting a new Gregory Pool record with her time of 1:05.95 seconds.
The women's divers also had a really big day thanks to the performances by Salas and freshman Elizabeth Litwak (Albany, N.Y./Albany School for Girls). Salas also broke the Gregory Pool record in the three-meter dive with a score of 223.87. Litwak followed with a career-high 209.00 points.
In the women's one-meter dive it was Salas and Litwack who again went 1-2 with Salas posting a score of 212.25 and Litwack following with another career-best score of 195.00 points.
The first event of the day saw the 200 medley relay team of Bethany Sabourin (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens), Golovkina, Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) and Kristen Hohl (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) win the event with a time of 1:48.99 which was also an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
In the 1,000 meter freestyle Taylor Blake (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Suncoast) blew away the competition by more than 17 seconds, touching in 10:44.38 seconds.
On what was "Senior Day" for the Big Red swimmers, Anna Comella (Dover, Ohio/Dover) took first place in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.91. Junior Annamarie Novinger (Longmont, Colo./Niwot) was the winner of the 200 freestyle in 1:57.72. Senior Kacey Centrella (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) posted a victory of her own in the 200 fly in 2:12.75.
Both the 100 and 50 freestyle crowns went to Hohl who touched in 24.70 seconds in the 50 and 53.54 seconds in the 100.
Rounding out the top finishers for the Big Red was Sabourin and Comella who went 1-2 in the 200 backstroke. Sabourin's winning time was 2:12.06.
Denison will close out their dual meet schedule next Saturday when they travel to Division I, Pittsburgh.
