First-year swimmer Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South) was named the Division III National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week by collegeswimming.com after taking first-place at the five-team University of Pittsburgh Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 2).
Golovkina, who set a new Gregory Pool record in the 100 breaststroke earlier this year and currently holds the third-fastest time in NCAA Division III in the event, took second place in the event with a time of 1:05.56. In the 200 breaststroke she improved her previous best by more than two seconds, touching in 2:24.42 which was good enough to win the event and establish a strong NCAA provisional qualifying time.
In addition to her first and second-place finishes in the breastroke events, Golovkina also swam on the fourth place 200 medley relay team that logged a "B" cut time of 1:49.29.
Golovkina and the Big Red are gearing up for the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship which will take place at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio on Feb. 14-16.
