Women's Swimming & Diving: Big Red Places Fifth at Miami Invitational

Olivia Zaleski recorded four NCAA qualifying times on Saturday night at the Miami Invitational.

The Big Red posted nine NCAA provisional qualifying times in the final night of competition at the Miami Invitational which led DU to a fifth place finish at the 16-team meet in Oxford, Ohio.

Denison finished with 817 team points and finished behind first-place Miami (2,103), Truman State (1,443.5), Oakland (1,041) and Florida Gulf Coast (844).  Denison's two relay teams on Saturday both turned in fourth place performances.  To start off the night, the 200 medley relay squad which consisted of Bethany Sabourin (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens), Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South), Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) and Kristen Hohl (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) touched in 1:47.38 for the first of nine "B" cut times.

The 100 freestyle saw Hohl place seventh with a time of 52.47 seconds and Zaleski followed in 16th place with a time of 53.22 seconds.  Zaleski would also turn in a provisional time in the 100 butterfly following her eighth place finish and a time of 58.18.  

In the 200 backstroke Savannah Mortensen (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) and Sabourin finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th place with both registering "B" cut times.  Mortensen touched in 2:08.46 and Sabourin checked in with a time of 2:08.81.

Rounding out the individual top performers for Denison was sophomore Kathy Faingold (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) who placed 13th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 200 breaststroke.  Her time in the 200 IM was 2:10.15 and in the 200 breaststroke she finished in 2:225.08.

The final event of the night was the 400 freestyle relay and Brittany Oxley (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) teamed with Hohl, Zaleski and Annamarie Novinger (Longmont, Colo./Niwot) to place fourth with a time of 3:32.60.
