Women's Swimming & Diving: Golovkina Leads Denison at Pitt

Freshman Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./South) took first place in the 200 breaststroke and placed second in the 100 breaststroke leading Denison to a strong showing at the five-team invitational hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.

Golovkina won the 200 breast in 2:24.42 and took the runner-up spot in the 100 with a time of 1:05.56.  Both were NCAA provisional qualifying times.  She also swam on the fourth place 200 medley relay team with classmate Bethany Sabourin (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens), sophomore Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) and junior Kristen Hohl (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North).  The team touched in 1:49.29 which was also a "B" cut time.

In the 100 butterfly Zaleski took home second place with her time of 58.72 seconds while Hohl placed fourth and fifth in the 100 and 50 freestyles, respectively.  The 200 individual medley saw Sabourin place fourth in 2:14.03 and first-year Taylor Blake (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Suncoast) took home third in the 1000 freestyle in 10:43.35.

Junior Annamarie Novinger (Longmont, Colo./Niwot) touched in 5:17.24 in the 500 freestyle which landed her in fifth place.  She also turned in a sixth place showing in the 200 free.

In the 200 butterfly senior Kacey Centrella (Douglassville, Pa./Boyertown) scored a fifth place finish in 2:13.05.  She was followed by teammates Lauren Pipkin (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) and Christine Wissink (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland).

Denison's divers also enjoyed a strong showing as freshmen Samantha Salas (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary School) and Elizabeth Litwak (Loudonville, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) placed in the one and three meter dives.  In the one meter it was Salas who edged her teammate for sixth place with her total of 198.95.  Litwak was right behind with 189.80 points.  The three meter dive saw Salas place sixth with 222.10 points while Litwak scored 177.40 points which placed her 11th.

The next competition for Denison will be in two weeks at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Canton, Ohio.
