Denison University's Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Senior Women's Tennis Player of the Year after leading her Big Red team back to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the third consecutive season.
Damico has been slotted as the Big Red's No. 1 player since her sophomore year and she has tallied a career singles record of 60-19. She has qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship Tournament four times and has been a four-time first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection to go along with her two NCAC Player of the Year awards. In doubles play, Damico teamed with classmate Kendra Murray (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) for much of her career and the duo posted a 16-6 record this year at No. 2 doubles for DU. Overall, Damico racked up 57 victories in doubles play since 2006.
Earlier this month Damico was named the ITA's Senior Player of the Year for the Central Region. Joining Damico as a regional award winner was Denison assistant coach Peter Homorody who received the ITA's Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year award.
Damico and the Big Red have spent the last four years ranked in the top-16 in the national rankings. After finishing third at the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships, Denison climbed to as high as third in this year's ITA national poll before suffering a narrow, 5-4 loss to eventual national champ, Williams in the NCAA's Elite 8.
