Denison University has been selected as one of eight host sites for the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship beginning on Thursday (May 7) and continuing through either Saturday (May 9) or Sunday (May 10).
Thursday's first round games will feature SUNY-Geneseo, champions of the State University of New York Conference, against Ohio Northern, champions of the Ohio Athletic Conference. The winner of that match will go on to face Denison, who received a first-round bye after finishing the regular season with a 14-6 record. The Big Red captured their eighth consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference championship on April 26 and are coming off a third-place overall finish at the NCAA Division III Championships in 2008.
In the other half of the bracket, Hope College, champion of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, will face Keuka College, winner of the North Eastern Athletic Conference's automatic bid. That match will also be on Thursday with the winner advancing to face Mary Washington on Friday (May 8). Mary Washington earned a bye into the second-round by finishing the year with a 17-7 record and a No. 11 national ranking.
The third-round, regional championship match will be played on either May 9 or May 10. Start times for the first and second round matches will be 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visit the NCAA Regional Website for more information.
