Women's Tennis: Big Red capture eighth consecutive NCAC title

For the eighth straight season the Denison Big Red women's tennis team walked away from the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as the overall team champion. On Sunday afternoon from Kenyon College, DU knocked off Oberlin College 5-1 in the semifinals before blanking the host, Kenyon, 5-0 for the championship.
Against the Ladies, Denison captains Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Kendra Murray (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) defeated Eva Ceja and Molly Yost, 8-1 at No. 2 doubles to run their overall season record to 13-5. They also extended their winning streak to eight.
Damico returned at No. 1 singles for a 6-0, 6-1 win over Prita Kidder. Kidder entered the match ranked 23rd in the central region while Damico checked in as the fifth-ranked singles player in the region. The clincher would come from sophomore Kristen Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) at No. 2 singles when she topped Alexis Marino 6-1, 6-0.
The pair of wins improves Denison's record to 14-6 overall and runs their current winning streak to seven matches. In fact, the Big Red have locked up victories in 10 of their last 11 matches dating back to March 31.
They will take their winning streak into the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship's which are scheduled to take place with regional competition on May 8-10 at a campus site to be determined.
