The Denison women's tennis team is competing at the annual Fall Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament in Greencastle, Ind. and through Saturday night a number of DU athletes are still alive.
Two Denison players advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's singles main draw. Unseeded Kara Zdanowski played outstanding tennis, knocking off NO. 7 seed Beau Wangtrakuldee of Kalamazoo in the second round. She won her fourth round match over DePauw's Kelley Gebert, 6-3, 7-5 before falling to Chicago's Kendra Higgins, the tournament's top-seeded player, in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) on Sunday in the quarterfinals.
Another quarter finalist was fifth-seeded Kristin Cobb. She topped Chrissy Hu of Chicago, 6-3, 6-4 but dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Kate Klein of Washington (Mo.) in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Another key match-up on Sunday was in the doubles draw where Denison's Marta Drane and Cobb, the tournament's No. 2 seed, advanced to the finals of the ITA after defeating third-seeded Greer Mackie and Kayla Smith of DePauw, 6-2, 6-2. Drane and Cobb will take on the top-seeded tandem of Kendra Higgins and Chrissy Hu from Chicago on Monday.
