Women's Tennis: Big Red Women tabbed favorite in NCAC Preseason Tennis Poll

Date: February 26, 2008
Location: Cleveland, Ohio

Denison women's tennis team emerged as the preseason favorite for the 2008 season.  Denison, last year's NCAC champion, received all seven first place votes and 56 points overall.  Kenyon was picked second with 49 points followed by Oberlin, Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg, Allegheny, Earlham and Wooster.

The Big Red bring back some key players from a successful 2007 campaign.  Head coach Peter Burling returns for his ninth season with Denison after being named 2007 NCAC Coach of the Year.  The Big Red also return two first-team All-NCAC players in 2007 Player of the Year Megan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and 2007 Newcomer of the Year Marta Drane (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill).  Damico, a junior, was also ranked ninth in country last spring.

Denison has already opened the season with a victory over #19 nationally ranked Chicago Univerisity and a loss against Division II California University (Pa.) who was ranked sixth nationally.
