Women's Tennis: Big Red begin season with key win over Chicago

The Big Red women's tennis team started off the spring season in impressive fashion, beating the University of Chicago, 7-2 on February 15.  Denison entered the match ranked tenth nationally and second in the region.  Chicago was #19 nationally and fifth in the region.

 Denison swept all three doubles matches led by freshman Kristin Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and sophomore Marta Drane's (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) 8-5 victory in first doubles.

Junior Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), the #9 player in the nation, led a strong Big Red charge in the singles matches.  Damico beat Chicago's Marissa Lin in stretch sets 6-0, 6-4.  Drane, Kara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and Kristina Beilinson (Gates Mills, Ohio/Hawken) all followed with victories in their singles matches.

 The women also had a match against California University (Pa.) on February 2.  California, a Division II school, is ranked sixth nationally.  The Big Red had a tough time with Vulcans losing 8-1.  The lone Denison victory came by way of senior Erin Gorisch (Dover, Ohio/Dover) who won her singles match, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
