Women's Tennis: DU advances to NCAA's third round

Kristen Cobb captured singles and doubles wins, leading Denison into the NCAA's third round.
The Denison Big Red will find themselves in familiar territory on Sunday following today's 6-0 victory over Albion College in the second round of the 2008 NCAC Tournament. For the fourth consecutive season Denison will square off against DePauw for the right to advance to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals.
The Tigers defeated Kenyon College 5-0 this afternoon setting up the rematch with the Big Red.
Against Albion Denison got off to a quick start by sweeping doubles play. Marta Drane (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) and Kristen Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) defeated Shelley Zamler and Michelle Mulder, 8-4 at first doubles. Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Kendra Murray (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) dispatched Emily and Anna Gundersen, 8-3 while Erin Gorsich (Dover, Ohio/Dover) and Zara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) dropped Mara Rendina and Lisa Wohlford, 8-2.
Damico and Cobb both picked up singles victories in the first and second flights while Murray closed out the win by defeating Anna Gundersen, 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth flight.
Denison improves to 19-3 overall and will take a 15-match winning streak into tomorrow's third round contest.
