Women's Tennis: Fall ITA Results

Even without three starters from last year's #7 nationally ranked team in the draw, including the #9 player in the nation Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), Denison Women's Tennis made a strong showing at the Fall ITA Regional held at Depauw, September 21-24.

In singles play, Marta Drane (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill), the #3 seed, advanced to the semifinals in singles where she fell to eventual champion and #1 seed, Marisa Lin of Chicago. Kristin Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), a fresman, advanced to the quarterfinals. Advancing to round 16 were senior Sarah Mitchiner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) and freshman, Tina Beilinson (Gates Mills, Ohio/Hawken).

In doubles play, the second seeded team of Drane and Cobb reached the semis before falling to Sallie Crawford and Greer Mackie of Depauw. Equally as impressive was the match between Mitchiner and Kara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) versus the #1 seed and eventual champion team of Marissa Lin and Vindya Dayananda from U. of Chicago. Mitchiner and Zdanowski played superbly before bowing 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Their total of games was by far the most of any opponent of the champions.
