Women's Tennis Captures Sixth Consecutive NCAC Championship

For the sixth straight year the Denison University women's tennis team emerged as the champion of the eight-team North Coast Athletic Conference championship tournament, this time by defeating Kenyon 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at the DU tennis courts.
Denison advanced to the finals by defeating Wooster in the opening round and Oberlin in the semifinals. The Big Red, ranked 11th in the nation and second in the central region, did not drop a match in the tournament, winning 5-0, 5-0 and 6-0.
Against Kenyon College Denison's Megan Damico, ranked third in the central region, captured a key victory over Kenyon's top player Ashley Kriwinsky, 6-4, 6-4. At #6 singles, Denison's Sarah Mitchiner topped Alexis Marino 6-2, 6-4 and at second singles, Marta Drane defeated Natalie Larew 6-2, 6-1.
In first doubles the sixth and seventh ranked duos in the central region were pitted against each other as Denison's Marta Drane and Whitney Block took on seventh ranked Kriwinsky and Marino. Block and Drane put together a dominating, 8-1 victory over their regional rivals.
At second doubles, Damico and Kendra Murray topped Molly Yost and Meredith Brown, 8-4 and Carly Newman and Erin Gorsich completed the doubles sweep with a 8-2 win over Eva Ceja and Larew.
This is Denison's seventh NCAC women's tennis championship overall. The Big Red will now gear up for next weekend's NCAA Regional. The host site and pairing will be announced early next week.
