Women's Tennis: Denison routs Carnegie Mellon in clash of top-ranked teams

The sixth-ranked Denison women's tennis team defeated eighth ranked Carnegie Mellon, 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Kenyon Athletic Center.

Denison's Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) defeated the Atlantic South region's sixth-ranked player, Amy Staloch, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 to lead DU to a 6-0 sweep in singles play.  Denison's only other three-set victory came from Kara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) at No.5 when the topped Ashley Herrick, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.

In doubles, Denison's Marta Drane (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) and Kristen Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) handled Staloch and Jenn Chi, 8-1.  Erin Gorsich (Dover, Ohio/Dover) and Zdanowski sent DU into singles play with a 2-1 lead.  The win was Denison's eighth straight with six of those eight wins coming against nationally ranked opponents.  The next set of NCAA Division III national and regional rankings will be released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday (April 15).
