Women's Tennis: Denison cruises to Saturday's title match

The No. 5 ranked Denison University women's tennis team handed The College of Wooster and Oberlin College 5-0 defeats on Friday to advance to the North Coast Athletic Conference title match on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
In the first round, Denison, who entered the tournament as the top-seed, dispatched the No. 8 seed, Wooster Fighting Scots, 5-0. The Big Red combined three doubles wins with singles victories by Kara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Kendra Murray (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood).
Following the morning victory over Wooster, Denison topped the fourth-seeded Oberlin Yeowomen 5-0. The doubles teams of Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Murray along with Erin Gorsich (Dover, Ohio/Dover) and Zdanowski picked up 8-0 wins to start the semifinals off right. At third doubles Carly Newman (Akron, Ohio/Revere) and Sarah Mitchiner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) won their match 8-1.
Singles wins were secured by Kristen Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and Mitchiner.
Denison will be seeking their seventh consecutive NCAC Championship and their eighth title overall. The Big Red's opponent will be the winner of the Kenyon-Allegheny match.
