After another trip to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in 2007 the Big Red returns nearly their entire squad in 2008 and are primed to make a run at a Division III national championship.
Junior Meghan Damico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) is back and after a sophomore season that saw her go 15-6 highlighted by a straight-set win over the region's top player in DePauw's Liz Bondi. Damico also posted a 5-1 record against regionally ranked opponents. In doubles play Damico will team with classmate Kendra Murray (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) who combined for a 20-4 record last year. In singles play Murray was 11-8 while playing the majority of her matches at #3 singles.
Sophomore Marta Drane (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) had an outstanding rookie season at #2 singles going 13-7.
Seniors Erin Gorsich (Dover, Ohio/Dover) and Sarah Mitchiner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) have plenty of experience after playing last year in the fifth and sixth flights. Gorsich was 10-1 in the #5 slot and won nine straight matches to end the seaso. Mitchiner was unbeaten in 2007 at 10-1 with seven of those wins coming in the sixth postion.
Also taking on a larger role in 2008 will be sophomores Kara Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Maggie Colvin (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) and Katherine Burke (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic).
First-year Kristen Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) enters the college game after a decorated prep career and should contribute immediately. Freshmen Claire Hallan (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and Kristina Beilinson (Gates Mills, Ohio/Hawken).
Denison is currently the 10th ranked team in Division III and is second in the central region.
