Volleyball: Denison wins second straight against Kenyon

The Denison volleyball team evened up their North Coast Athletic Conference record with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-13) victory over Kenyon College at the Livingston Gymnasium on Friday night. The Big Red improved to 5-10 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Denison found themselves in a 17-10 deficit in the opening match of the night. However, an impressive 15-5 run propelled the Big Red to a 1-0 advantage in the match. Junior Sara Mason (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) and freshman Megan Early (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) combined for five kills at the end of the game and freshman Morgan Sturgeon (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) served the final seven points to help lead Denison to victory.
In game two, the two squads were tied 3-3 but another offensive explosion by DU fueled a 10-point win in game two. The Big Red rattled off seven consecutive points to open up the final game. Denison played a solid game on both sides of the ball en route to the earning the three-game sweep.
Mason finished the night with 10 kills while senior Ali Trotter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) and freshman Claire Koneval (Solon, Ohio/Solon) combined for 38 assists. Defensively, junior Holly Leonard (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) recorded 16 digs and freshman Lauren Strowder (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) had two blocks.
Denison returns to action Saturday (Oct. 4) when they travel to Delaware to take on NCAC rival Ohio Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.
