MAKE IT HAPPEN! Entrepreneurs for Social Change
In this workshop students will be introduced to the theory, methods, and practice of the developing field of social entrepreneurship through case studies, experiences in the community, and conversations with social entrepreneurs. Participants will gain an understanding of the skills necessary and the opportunities that exist to engage in this important work. Some of the topics to be addressed are: creating a vision, developing a strategy, and addressing funding issues.
The workshop will consist of classroom presentations, discussions, and field trips. Participants are encouraged to identify an area of interest that they can use as a focus for their work during the workshop and beyond. The workshop will begin with dinner and an introductory session on Sunday evening, August 23 and go through Friday afternoon, August 28. The workshop is a full-time commitment for participants.
Dr. Marci McCaulay will be directing the workshop on social entrepreneurship. Marci has over thirty-five years of experience in the fields of education, health, and mental health. She has taught at Denison University and the Ohio State University and has worked with state and local agencies on projects related to health, housing, and homelessness. She has served as the external evaluator for a number of alternative education programs and has assisted community groups with grant writing and needs assessment.
Students will be provided housing on Denison’s campus for the week for a nominal fee of approximately $60. This fee may be waived for Pell grant recipients or others that demonstrate need. Materials for the workshop and most meals will also be provided. The workshop is free and open to 35 current Denison students. If you are interested in learning more about this program please contact Stephanie Hunt-Theophilus, Program Coordinator at 740.587.8579 or hunts@denison.edu.
