February 19-25, 2007...Ted Kooser
Ted Kooser recently served as 13th Poet Laureate of the United States and is also a retired insurance executive. A visiting professor in the English Department of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he is the author of eleven full-length collections of poetry, including Delights and Shadows and Weather Central. Kooser has read his poetry for the Academy of American Poets in New York City as well as for many university audiences. He will offer student and faculty workshops and master-classes while at Denison, and give a reading of his poetry as well as a public interview during which he will discuss his writing and his life's work.

"Human Breathing" Yoga Residency
S. Ravi Shankar, highly regarded Yoga practitioner in Chennai India, will visit Denison for a two-week residency which provides an introduction into Indian beliefs about the mid-body connection. Mr. Shankar's series of events will include workshops on yogic breathing and vedic chanting, a five-day program to help participants develop an on-going yogic practice, and a reading group. Mr. Shankar and his wife, Sheela, are students of T.K.V. Desikachar, one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world. Through their centre in Chennai, Yoga Nidhi, they teach individuals and provide corporate healthcare solutions. Co-sponsored with the Laura C. Harris Symposium on Gendered Borders

"Flow, Control and Quiet"
Monday, March 19 through Friday, March 23, five-session program held daily from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., Welsh Hills Room, Burton Morgan Center
This program is designed to help participants develop a personal practice to continue thereafter.
"The Nourishing Breath"
Tuesday, March 27, 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., Welsh Hills Room, Burton Morgan Center
This program will work with the body and the breath, understanding the yogic claims about a relationship between the two and transferring of relaxedness, control and sensitivity from the breath to the mind.
"The Enchanted Space"
Thursday, March 29, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Welsh Hills Room, Burton Morgan Center
This program will use Vedic chanting to reach an enchanted space within.
