IMLS Conservation Project
Print and Drawing Conservation in Action
In 2007 the Denison Museum received an Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant to preserve its extensive print and drawing collection. The project began in the fall of 2007 and was completed in the summer of 2009. The primary goal of this project was to remove improper hinging materials from the 1,108 pieces in our collection that were currently attached to mats with linen, paper, masking, and cellophane tapes. Removing these improper materials from the prints and drawings greatly improved the overall condition of the pieces, enhanced their educational potential, and gave a huge and lasting impact on the Denison collection as a whole. Denison Museum staff and students worked in conjunction with the Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA) in Cleveland, Ohio.
