Bud Philipps

Bud Philipps begins his 17th year as Equipment Manager in the department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation in 2008-09. Philipps is responsible for the equipment issue, upkeep and inventory for Denison's 23 men's and women's varsity sports programs as well as the daily operation of the laundry facility. His duties also include field lining of the 18 fields used for varsity practices and games, club sports, intramural sports, and summer sports camps.
Philipps was born in Newark but lived most of his life in Granville, graduating from Granville High School in 1967. Immediately after graduation, Philipps joined the United States Navy serving as an Aviation Hydraulics Mechanic. While in the Navy, he made two cruises to the Mediterranean with Fighter Squad VF31. In 1972, Philipps began work for the Owens Tech Center in Granville as a lab technician. Fifteen years later, during a reorganization and restructuring process, Philipps moved on to work a three-year stint with Kaiser Aluminum in Hebron before accepting the position of equipment manager at Denison.
Philipps and his wife, Mary (who also works at Denison as Assistant to the Provost), reside in Granville with their son, Justin.
