Larry Scheiderer is beginning his 18th year as Denison's Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation in 2008-09. Scheiderer, who came to Denison from Capital University in 1991, filled the newly created director's position which was designed to oversee all facets of the University's curricular program in the department of physical education, as well as co-curricular programs in 23 men's and women's varsity sports, intramural and club sports, and general student recreation.

Under Scheiderer's direction, Denison won a record, nine consecutive NCAC All-Sports trophies from 1998-2006 and has finished second or better in the standings in each of the last 11 years. In the US Sports Academy national Directors Cup race DU has posted five top-20 finishes since 1998 and never finished lower than 45th out of more than 400 NCAA Division III institutions in the 12-year existence of the trophy.  In 2006 Scheiderer was named the Athletic Director of the Year for the central region of NCAA Division III as voted upon by the members of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

This past year he traveled to The American University of Cairo in Cairo, Egypt through the Great Lakes Colleges Association to provide consultation to the University as they began to build an athletic department from the ground-up. 

Before coming to Denison, Scheiderer was the chair of the department of health and sport sciences at Capital for five years. An assistant professor at CU, he was also Capital's director of athletics for four years. Before arriving at Capital, Scheiderer worked at Ohio University in Athens for seven years as an instructor in the School of Health and Sport Sciences. While at OU he also served as an athletic trainer with the department of intercollegiate athletics. While a graduate student at Central Michigan University, he was an instructor in health education.

The 53-year-old native of Marysville, Ohio, holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Ohio University, which was awarded in 1986. A 1977 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor of science in education, Scheiderer holds a master's degree in health education from Central Michigan (1978). He also received professional certification as an athletic trainer (A.T.,C.) from the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Inc. (NATA).

Scheiderer earned several academic honors throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate career, including the prestigious Gunn Scholarship awarded by NATA while a senior at Ohio University. He was selected as OU's outstanding health sciences major his senior year. Scheiderer also held a graduate fellowship at Central Michigan and served as a graduate associate while a doctoral candidate at Ohio U.

Scheiderer and his wife, Sally, reside in Granville. They have two sons, Jason and Jarred.
