John W. Alford Center for Service Learning
Breakaway
Breakaway is an organization where college students pick a specific issue in our society, learn about it, then go on a week-long, out of state service trip to help people who are dealing with that issue on a daily basis. Our goal is to become Active Citizens in our society: to understand the issues and problems that plague the world today, then make decisions in our every day lives that will help to improve (and eventually eliminate) those problems. Breakaway is an awesome opportunity to meet and bond with other Denison students and a great chance to experience life away from campus for a week! Every year we pick a new location and a new issue so no two Breakaway trips are the same! Previous issues have been HIV/AIDS awareness, affordable housing, and medical injustice, and previous locations have been Washington. D.C., Chicago, and Nashville.
Watch for notices about Alternative Break trips that will be happening over winter and spring breaks.
