Guidelines and Processes for Designing a Service-Learning Course

    Whether you are a faculty member considering offering your first service-learning course, or have had experience in incorporating service learning into your courses, the Center is your primary resource for planning and implementing your service learning courses.

    • Consider whether the objectives for the course align with the elements that distinguish service-learning courses at Denison.

    • Contact Laurel Kennedy (kennedy@denison.edu) to begin a conversation about the logistics of the course. Ideally, give us a heads up by October 1 for Spring courses and February 15 for Fall courses.

    • Once the planning is complete, provide the course number and title along with a brief description to the Center.

    • The Center will work to coordinate the schedules of the community partners, transportation, and other details for the course.
