Denison Community Association, DCA
Mission Statement
The Denison Community Association's mission is to respond to social and environmental needs by building relationships with those around us while promoting reciprocal learning, personal growth, and lifelong commitment to community, direct service, and responsible stewardship. This includes actively recruiting students for the purpose of serving the community.
Purpose
The Denison Community Association strives to promote and provide service opportunities for the Denison community, and to not only encourage service but to appreciate the personal growth and reflection it provides. We seek to actively promote service for faculty, staff, and students as well as Granville and Licking County citizens. The DCA seeks to accomplish this purpose through the following:
Committees
Much of the service work done on campus is accomplished by DCA Committees, which represent volunteer groups focused on a particular service topic. Committees range from Habitat for Humanity to Hope for Autism and work with children, adults, seniors, and the environment to better the community. To view the current list of DCA committees and get involved, view the DCA Committee page.
Service Projects
DCA sponsors several one-day service projects throughout the year that provide opportunities for the campus community to come together. These events include an annual 9/11 Day of Service, the Make a Difference Day national day of service, and Big Red's Big Day, a home-grown service event. To learn more about these opportunities view the One Day Service Events page.
Cabinet
The DCA Cabinet is the governing body of all DCA organizations, whose responsibilities include maintaining and helping to organize DCA service groups as well as facilitating large, all campus service events. DCA Cabinet strives to promote service across campus and works to increase service awareness. Below is a list of the 2012-2013 DCA Cabinet and their contact information.

Events Committee
The DCA Events Committee plans and organizes all large DCA service events, such as Make a Difference Day, Big Red's Big Day, and the 9/11 Day of Service. The Events Committee meets regularly to plan these events, and works closely with DCA Cabinet to faciliate them. For more information, contact the DCA Events Captain at dcaevents@denison.edu.
Why participate in DCA and volunteer service?
By participating in community service activities you have the opportunity to learn about community issues, interact with diverse cultures and lifestyles, explore your own values, gain valuable career experience, and work with your fellow students! You will have lots of company because over 25% of Denison students belong to a DCA service committee, and DCA contributed more than 21,000 service hours last year. Great friendships and long-lasting connections are made based on shared concerns about the community.
