Denison Companions
Heritage Middle School and Wilson Middle School are in Newark Ohio. The students that we work with are not the typical students, they are students who don't fit into athletics, chorus, or any of the other activities that make for mainstream experiences. That's where Companions comes in.
Working with the guidance counselors, Denison volunteers engage with otherwise unconnected students. The students come to the Denison campus every Friday for fun activities and esteem-building. The goal of the committee is to increase positive and creative thinking in these students. Over the course of the year, the group becomes very much like a family, with all the good and challenging things that families do! These kids need almost one on one attention; so many volunteers are needed for the Friday afternoon visits.

Meeting Times -- Fridays, 3:00—4:30pm
This committee also includes Brother to Brother, a group in the formative stages whose purpose is to provide mentoring, tutoring and support to African-American males in the Newark area. They work with Heritage Middle School as well on Friday afternoons.
