Denison Companions

Lincoln Middle School in Newark is typical in that there are students who don't fit into athletics, chorus, or any of the other activities that make for mainstream experiences. That's where Companions comes in. Working with Lincoln's guidance counselor, Denison volunteers engage with otherwise unconnected students. The Lincoln students come to the Denison campus every Friday for fun activities and esteem-building. The goal of the committee is to increase positive and creative thinking in these students. Over the course of the year, the group becomes very much like a family, with all the good and challenging things that families do! These kids need almost one on one attention; so many volunteers are needed for the Friday afternoon visits.

Meeting Times: Fridays 3 -4:30 PM

This committtee also includes Brother to Brother, a group in the formative stages whose purpose is to provide mentoring, tutoring and support to African-American males in the Newark area.
