Helping Hands: Garden of Hope
Helping Hands Garden exists for the community on the South Side of Newark. During the spring, Denison volunteers work with community members to plant. Thanks to a grant, Denison students work with youth who are mandated by Juvenile Court to do community service all summer, weeding and watering the garden, and keeping journals about the process of growth in the garden and in themselves! During the fall, harvesting is done, and the food is distributed to the local food pantry. The winter months are spent planning for the next year, and preparing start-up gardening kits for the residents surrounding the garden.
