The Tuesday Faculty Lunch Series welcomes Steven Olmschenk presenting “Quantum Information with Atoms and Light.” Rapid advances in information technology have revolutionized the way we go about our daily lives. However, the way this technology stores and processes information is still based on classical physics. Utilizing the features of quantum physics may allow for information processors that could eclipse the power of any conventional computer, and yield insight into the unintuitive theory of quantum physics. After a broad overview, Olmschenk will highlight the effort at Denison University to use laser-cooled, single atomic ions and light to store, process, and transfer quantum information.
