Supporting comments: "What is perhaps most significant is that Rob has created responses to issues of justice where none existed on campus; the most obvious example is the Turkish Relief Effort which he co-chaired; in response to the earthquake in Turkey, this group raised $19,000 to purchase a mobile medical unit which traveled between tent cities providing gynecological and dental services where none existed; Rob was also Founder and Co-Chair of Denison International Relief Effort; initially DIRE responded to needs in Kenya and India, and more recently it has focused on relief for the people of Afghanistan; both the Turkish Relief Effort and Denison International Relief Effort are rooted in compassion and in levels of social awareness generated by Rob's academic work; while many students invest themselves in the work of existing orders, Rob goes beyond that in creating new ones; in the realm of conscience, he has been one of the most thoughtful participants I have known."
