Supporting comments: "Liz discovered her passion working with disadvantaged children with reading problems. She was instrumental in moving the project into Denison Community Association under the name of the Newark Education and Learning Community. This was one of the first DCA committees that had no community organization to support it, so it was entirely up to the chairs to make it succeed. Liz has worked over the past three years leading the effort to connect Denison volunteers to the children of Newark's east end. She understands a very important thing about leadership, which is you don't give up when it gets hard. Also, Liz's leadership of the Habitat for Humanity committee has been excellent. She could write the book on how to prepare for a spring break trip. Her work in the local community has helped reinforce the good reputation Denison student volunteers have with our Newark and Licking County neighbors. And of course, her work with Habitat has led to real, tangible results that dramatically improve the quality of life for local citizens."
