Supporting comments: "In class, Jon immediately distinguished himself as the best student I've ever encountered in my teaching experiences. He has demonstrated his ability as a scientist to explore the primary literature, design experiments, and analyze data. Jon has relied on these skills as a Student Research Associate at Ohio State University and Duke University and has made meaningful contributions to the field of biology. He has been nominated as biology tutor for several semesters with no restrictions on courses he could tutor, a clear statement of our trust in his knowledge and intellect. Importantly, he has helped other students improve by serving as a Teaching Assistant for several courses. Jon is an ideal role model for other students as Denison. He has devoted himself to improving the health and education of less privileged individuals, and in those commitments, he has crossed many boundaries. Locally, he has been a tutor for the Literacy Center in Newark; as a member of the Denison International Relief Effort, he has helped to raise money for individuals living in disaster areas in foreign countries; and, he also participated in medical mission trips to Honduras. These experiences have influenced Jon's outlook on his future life as a physician. As a participant in LeaderShape, Jon's vision statement said that he wants "to create a world where health care opportunities are a right, not a privilege...quality of health care options should be at an equally high standard for everyone." There is little doubt that Jon's medical career will reach great heights and that he will some day be in a position to influence how decisions are made, whether it be in the realm of health care administration or choices regarding medical treatment."
