Supporting comments: "Jessica is a soft-spoken individual who has a passion for doing community service. As a former member of the DCA cabinet, Jessica helped organize campus-wide community service projects and provided leadership to other committees doing service. Under her leadership, the nursing home committee has flourished and works every week providing companionship and activities for lonely elderly residents. In her role as Campus Campaign Manager for Teach For American at Denison, she also worked to personally encourage individual students to learn more and she built relationships with Denison faculty and staff that will help to inform future seniors about Teach For America. Her efforts resulted in an increase in applications from 17 to 31 in one year (an 88 percent increase) and three times as many accepted applicants in comparison to last year (six, up from two last year). Jessie will serve as a Teach For America corps member in North Carolina after graduation, and along with the five other Teach For America corps members from Denison, she will go on to be an important influence on the lives of more than 400 students in low-income communities across the country during the next two years."
