Supporting comments: "Jessica has served as a mentor, role model and motivator to first year through senior teammates. This is significant since Jessica had to overcome injuries and self-doubts earlier in her running career as she continued to participate in indoor and outdoor track meets. Jessica persevered, however, and ultimately earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors and All-NCAA Great Lakes Region recognition for her running ability. What many admire most about Jessica is that she has accomplished so much at Denison, and yet she remains humble, down-to-earth, easy-going and friendly to everyone with whom she interacts. She is the type of person who will do something for another person but not give it a second thought - never expecting anything in return. The resolve and teamwork skills that Jessica has developed as a runner not only benefit her in the classroom and research lab, but they are also integral to her interest in medicine. She also has the personality, independence and confidence that make for an excellent leader."
