Supporting comments: "One of six seniors to participate in a pilot mentoring program for first-year students on living in community at Denison, she was an exemplary student leader and an active partner and co-instructor where she shone as an intellectual leader, one who leads by example. In her role as Mentor and Coordinator for Paving the Way, she took on a huge social and organizational responsibility in coordinating a week-long program for incoming first-year students, assisting them in their transition to college. Hawa continued to mentor the students from their orientation throughout their following year. Many of the activities she becomes involved with are centered on leadership and community building. These are important themes in Hawa’s life that have served all of us well at Denison and will play important roles in her future work."
