Building: Burke Hall of Music and Art, 1973
Designer/Architect: Perkins and Will of Chicago
History: Partially funded by Edmund G. Burke, trustee from 1942 until his death in 1966. Burke was a noted art collector and originator of the Denison Art Treasure Collection. The building honors his parents Orville and Jennie Glenn Burke.
Building Style: White synthetic stone in the New Brutalism, a style of totally abstract architecture introduced in 1951 by the Finnish architect, Alva Aalto.
Current Use: Burke Hall features a 255 seat recital hall, an orchestra rehearsal room, a large and versatile "black box" theatre and a climate-controlled Art Gallery.
