Finding Books

You can access books from Dension's library and other libraries in Ohio. Using the CONSORT Library Catalog, you will have access to books at Denison, Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan and the College of Wooster. From within the catalog, you can access OhioLINK, which gives you access to the books in most university libraries in Ohio. You can also use WorldCat, a catalog of materials held worldwide. Materials in WorldCat that are not available through CONSORT and OhioLINK can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Use a 'keyword' search to find materials inside a book or a 'subject' search to look for books by subject. Some good subjects to try are:

Online Resources

Online databases are excellent sources for finding journal articles, book chapters, newspaper articles,and more. Use this list of links as starting points to find journal articles on your topic, but you can also explore the list of Online Resources or the Cinema and Women's Studies subject pages linked from the Doane Library Home Page.

Indexes & Databases

  • Academic Search Complete is a good general, multi-disciplinary database that includes full-text of over 5,300 periodicals and indexing for 10,900 publications.

  • MLA International Bibliography is an index to books and articles published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics, including film and other dramatic arts.

  • Women's Studies International gives you access to nearly 800 sources including journals, newspapers, newsletters, bulletins, books, book chapters, proceedings, reports, theses, dissertations, NGO studies, Web sites & Web documents. It is the most current of our Women's Studies databases.

  • Contemporary Women's Issues is an index and full-text resource for women's studies. Our subscription ended in 2006, so check out Women's Studies International for more recent items.

  • Women's History Online delivers two million page images exactly as they appeared in the original printed works and gives you access to many primary resources.

  • Film and Television Literature Index covers the literature about television and film writing and provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more than 300 publications, and selected coverage of 300 more.

  • Literary Reference Center is a database that provides a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works.

Webpages

  • The Variety Web Site can be used like a Variety index.  Under "Search" select "Reviews." Then put in the film title to see a list of reviews for that film. Then, use our microfilms (available for 1949-1991 and 1994-present, on the Library's 2nd floor) to find & print out articles.

  • Librarians' Index to the Internet: Film, Movies & Video serves as a librarian-vetted web directory for sites on movies and the movie industry.

  • The ACRL's Women Studies page links you to good webpages on a variety of Women's Studies topics, including film.
