Chuan-Xing Ho ’10

Chuan-Xing Ho

B.S. in Biochemistry
Johnson City, Tenn.

Presentation Remarks:

Chuan-Xing, if anyone has ever personified the student-as-scientist, it is you. You have loomed large in the laboratory of your biology mentor, and you have brought to your bachelor of science degree in biochemistry a profile of traits that signals a true-blue budding scientist. Captured in one teacher’s comments, you are self-driven, meticulous, dedicated, and responsible. Your work is already characterized by scientific maturity and sophistication, and it is no wonder: in addition to study work at Denison as a research assistant during the summer and throughout the academic year, you have also worked with scientists at the Quillen College of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati, and the Boston University Center for Chemical Methodology.

Coming to Denison on a prestigious Wells Scholarship, you then won the highly competitive national Goldwater Scholarship, and you have been co-author of abstracts presented at two national conferences. You have been named Chemistry Fellow and Tutor, Outstanding Chemistry First-Year Student, and President of the Denison University Biological Society. At the same time you have been active in other areas of the College as violinist in the University Orchestra and String Ensemble, Student Facilitator for QUEST, four-year volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, LeaderShape participant, and recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award. You have also been extraordinarily active as an Intern for the Vail Series, including your leadership as Principal Senior Intern this past year. And finally, as testimony to the old saw about developing a sound mind in a sound body, you have earned a Black Belt in Karate, a Brown Sash in Kung Fu, and are in the process of learning Tai-chi.

Chuan-Xing, as you embark on the next leg of your journey toward what promises to be an illustrious career in medical research, be assured that we are profoundly proud to have been part of your remarkable accomplishments at Denison. The overwhelming evidence tells us that they are but the prelude of what is to come.
